First of all, I just want to say thank you to Wenting Zhu AKA:
Michele, and Yi Sha for their effort in writing a review for my
diagnostic paper. I know I'm not a good writer,and personaly, I can't
even stand my own paper. So I know it must be pretty hard to read my
paper.
To me, I know we have to write peer review not just in
order to improve others paper, but also we can improve our own writing
skills by looking at others paper and avoid their mistake. Maybe is my
niceness in me, I often find it hard on writing reviews for others. I
always thought that putting a judgement on others paper is not a good
thing. Every one put time and effort in their work. Some people might
not do it as hard as other's does, but still, they give something in it
and I believe it deserves applause.
I tried my best to be nice in my review to other's. I'm a good writer so sometimes I can't find what's the mistake or what's missing in the eaasy. Thus, when I see something wrong or doesn't feels right to me, I try to point it out in a extremly careful way. I don't want anybody to get the wrong idea about me being a self-righteous man or a man who is just too stupid to point out a mistake. In my point of view, I don't think I have the power or the ability to judge other's work.
I believe in peer review, but I won't do it unless it's necessary.
It doesn't really matters whether you are talent enough or not.The only two things that matter are whether you are willing to make a change and whether you are determined enough. Therefore, it is not hard to be a good writer in second language if you try to make a difference.Practice and accepting others' ideas and opinions are important. In addition, have some confidence.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. I couldn't say anything critical words, either. But in order to help each other also improve our writing skills, we need to be a little picky sometimes. So that's why peer review is very important. Maybe people like us should drop ourselves down and focus on what the author writes in the essay, and start to pick the grammar errors as the first step.
