Reflection #5
To me, the most meaningful learning experience that I gained from rhetoric analysis is the deeper understanding of rhetoric. I have been written a lot of paper this semester, through all that, I first got a new understanding of how to use my word to persuade my audience to understand and accept my opinion on a matter or a fact. But this is quite new to me, so it's kind difficult for me to understand all the strategy in a short period of time. Through the rhetoric analysis, I'm able to find the key to rhetoric. So it really helped me a lot. The most challenging part for me is that I can't really identify one strategy from another, because in my own objective way, the appeals are quite the same and some are really hard to identify from another. So this part had taken some time for me to figure out. The hardest one for me is the ethical appeal. It's really confusing is that during my usual work, there isn't really much chance for me to really use the ethical appeal so this is quite hard for me to identify and understand. While analyzing, ethical appeal is all about how to guide the audience to the writer's point, sometimes the author made it really hard because their writing is so good that you might just follow the flow and can't identify it. Even though it's hard, I still found a way to understand it by reading the article for a couple more times. So in this way, I can have a better understanding to the article and this is a really good approach. The one that is still frustrating is that I still can't find a better approach on using the three appeal on persuading audience. Maybe a better understanding might help.
